If Christmas brings with it a revolving door of relatives and friends, sometimes it can be hard to relax enough to actually enjoy yourself if you’re in charge of everything. That’s why we’ve put together some useful tips to help you stay on top of things during the celebrations!
Don’t try to do too much
Focus your attention on areas of your house that visitors are likely to see. Start by making a good impression with the entrance to your home, taking care to ensure that dirt and leaves haven’t been dragged in from outside and that shoes are properly tidied away. Nobody wants to be blinded by bright lights at Christmas, and lamps or candles will go great with your decorations. You can take advantage of this and use the darker lighting to draw attention to the areas that you concentrated on and away from other parts of the house.
Avoid the dreaded tidying backlog
Nobody wants to wake up to a mountain of washing up, and if you have children you’ll be all too aware of how much mess they can create when they’re not at school during the day. If you stay on top of this as it occurs- putting used mugs in the dishwasher and tidying toys and other items away after they are used- you can avoid having to do a massive cleanup operation just before the parents come to visit!
Don’t get caught out without supplies
It’s not really possible to have too much food at Christmas- and as the weather can sometimes catch you by surprise, or you suddenly realise you have more family members than you remembered- being stocked up on supplies can be a life-saver. Do a big shop at the beginning of the holidays and you’ll always be prepared even if you need to stock up again later on.
Use scents to add to the festive atmosphere
Calming winter scents like cinnamon, cloves or potpourri can really add to the mood you are trying to create, and help to differentiate the festive season from other times of the year. Scented candles are popular at Christmas, but a cheaper option is a jar of water with essential oils on the windowsill which will evaporate and infuse your home with festive cheer.
Get a professional in to help with the cleaning!
If you are entertaining over Christmas, now is a great time to get on top of the maintenance of carpets and upholstery in your home. Having these items professionally cleaned at least once a year will greatly increase their lifespan and save you money because you won’t have to have them replaced at great expense earlier than expected.
At Cleaning Pro we have invested heavily in all the cleaning equipment necessary to do the best job possible. It’s hard to beat knowledge gained from experience, and we know the correct machinery, techniques and chemicals to use in every situation. As well as our excellent carpet and upholstery cleaning services, we also offer anti-stain protection which can be a godsend with the kind of spillages that somehow become much more likely to happen after a few drinks and a lot of turkey!
